The Paulaner brewery – a traditional business showing strong environmental commitment

Paulaner is world famous for its excellent beer. But few people know that this traditional brewery is playing a leading role in environmental protection.

Munich, November 2012. —

Paulaner brews the world's most popular Weissbier. And it comes as no surprise, the 378-year-old brewery has always insisted on using the best ingredients and the best method of production.
This prerequisite is part of the company philosophy, as is social responsibility and environmental awareness in all the employees' everyday actions.
For the brewers, dealing with these aspects is part of the job description: heating and cooling are important processes in brewing. The brewing experts at Paulaner realised years ago that much can be done for the environment here.

Twenty years ago, the Bavarian brewery Paulaner opened a Bräuhaus in Beijing, its first brewpub outside of Germany.
This anniversary will be celebrated in style at this year’s Oktoberfest with Bavarian delicacies and freshly brewed Paulaner beer.

Munich, October 2012. —

Twenty years ago, the Paulaner brewery took a brave step: it opened its first Bräuhaus outside Bavaria – not in Germany, as one might expect, or even in Europe, but in the capital of China, Beijing. Here, approximately 8,000 kilometres as the crow flies away from its ancient Munich headquarters, the Hotel Kempinski was looking for an attractive gastro-concept. The idea of establishing a Bräuhaus, a place where fresh beer would be brewed on a daily basis and where top notch Bavarian food would be served, went down well with the hoteliers, who had visited and enjoyed the original Paulaner Bräuhaus – founded in 1889 – on Kapuzinerplatz in Munich. But whether the Bavarian concept would also work so far away from home remained to be seen.

Successful dream team: FC Bayern Munich and the Paulaner brewery product-teaser-image
Munich, October 2012.  —

Over the years, FC Bayern Munich and the Paulaner brewery have had plenty of reasons to party – since 2003, the traditional Munich brewery is the main sponsor of Germany’s most successful football club. However, the greatest victories have always been celebrated during Oktoberfest in Munich, because there is no better place to indulge in Bavarian joie to vivre than at the biggest funfair on earth – with a freshly tapped Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier. Since this year, the most expensive Bundesliga transfer ever, Javi Martínez, also knows what it means to be a Munich lad: during the traditional Paulaner photo shoot at Oktoberfest, the Spaniard and Bavarian new-boy felt visibly at ease. His colleagues Mario Gomez and Manuel Neuer were pleased to see how well he fit in...

Frisches, vor Ort gebrautes Bier, beste Küche und bayerische Lebensart: Die internationale Erfolgsgeschichte der inzwischen weltweit beliebten Paulaner Bräuhäuser begann in China
product-teaser-image
München, im Juni 2012. —

Fresh, locally brewed beer, the very best cuisine and Bavarian savoir vivre. How the Paulaner Bräuhaus achieved international success and worldwide popularity – a story which began in China. product-teaser-image
Munich, June 2012.  —

20 years ago, the traditional Munich-based Paulaner Brewery undertook the ambitious step of opening its first Bavarian-style Paulaner Bräuhaus, a micro-brewery and restaurant, outside Bavaria in the Chinese capital, Beijing. The establishment in question was located at the city's new Kempinski Hotel and was an exciting venture both for Paulaner and for the first guests. No one had any idea at the time whether the concept of serving original Bavarian beer and food in an authentic Bavarian atmosphere would prove to be a success - a degree of uncertainty which was not restricted to Beijing.
Paulaner, however, was confident of the quality of the product and also put its faith in the fact that such an investment would be rewarded by the instinctive desire of Chinese guests to seek out something special, and by their willingness to embrace new ideas. It rapidly became apparent that the visitors loved the fresh locally brewed beer, the Bavarian culinary specialities on offer and the typical hospitality provided. "The Paulaner Bräuhaus in Beijing has not lost any of its appeal since it first opened", says Paulaner Bräuhaus Consult GmbH Managing Director Jürgen Schenk, for whom the success of the concept also represents a personal triumph. As a newly qualified master brewer, he himself launched this Paulaner Bräuhaus and remained manager for many years.
